Ryan Grimm neatly distills the fascinating historical confluence of psychedelic drugs (mostly LSD) and computer culture in this Huffington Post excerpt from his forthcoming book, This Is Your Country on Drugs: The Secret History of Getting High in the United States. The surprising bit, however, is this reproduction of a 2007 handwritten letter from 101-year old (!) LSD-inventor Dr. Albert Hoffman, asking Apple CEO Steve Jobs to financially assist the first “the first LSD-assisted psychotherapy study in over 35 years.” Hoffman died in 2008 and Jobs apparently never contributed to the study. But don’t let that stop you from contributing to the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies-sponsored study.
