Eight Quirky Statewide Referendums On Tuesday

On Tuesday, November 6th America will vote on 435 House of Representatives seats, 35 Senate seats, 26 Governorships, and thousands upon thousands of state legislative seats. But 37 states are also voting on 155 state-wide referendums. Check out eight of the more interesting ones:

California
California has 11 overall propositions on the ballot for the November Election, 1 of them is The Farm Animal Confinement Initiative. A referendum to establish minimum space requirements based on square feet for calves raised for veal, breeding pigs, and egg-laying hens. Additionally, the referendum will ban the sale of animal products that were raised in spaces that do not meet the set requirements.

Another from California is the Permanent Daylight Saving Times Measure. An initiative to change the dates and times of the daylight saving time period  and to establish a permanent, year-round daylight savings time.

Florida
Florida has 12 overall referendums on the ballot this November, one is the Ban Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling and Ban Vaping in Enclosed Indoor Workplaces Amendment.  If passed, the amendment will ban offshore drilling of oil and natural gas on lands beneath all state waters and includes the ban of vapor-generating electronic devices in enclosed indoor workplaces.

Louisiana
Louisiana has 6 total measures on their November ballot. 1 of the provisions is the Unanimous Jury Verdict for Felony Trials Amendment. The amendment would require the unanimous agreement of jurors in order to convict people charged with felonies, rather than the 10 out of 12 requirement that is currently in place.

Nevada
Nevada has 6 overall initiatives on their November ballot, 2 interesting measures are the Renewable Energy Standards Initiative that would require electric utilities to acquire 50 percent of their electricity from renewable resources by 2030 and the Sales Tax Exemption for Feminine Hygiene Products Measure that would exempt feminine hygiene products from state and local sales taxes.

North Carolina
In North Carolina there are 6 ballot measure up for vote on November 6th. 1 interesting referendum on the ballot is the North Carolina Right to Hunt and Fish Amendment. If passed, it would establish a state constitutional right to fish, hunt, and harvest wildlife for all North Carolina resident.

West Virginia
There are 2 measures on West Virginia’s November ballot.  1 of them includes the No Right to Abortion in Constitution Measure. The passing of the measure would initiate the addition of language into the West Virginia Constitution stating that nothing in that Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires funding of an abortion.
