Primary Election Dates
All primary elections in South Dakota are semi-closed. Each political party decides who may vote in their primary election.
In 2026, the Republican party will be holding closed primaries, meaning only registered Republicans may participate. The Democratic party will be holding primaries that are open to Democratic voters as well as voters who are unaffiliated with any political party.
