It's Volunteer Appreciation Month!
We are celebrating our 60,000+ volunteers across the country for all of their hard work and dedication. Thank you to all of you who put in countless hours registering and engaging voters in democracy.
HeadCount started as an all-volunteer organization, and we continue to reach hundreds of thousands of voters every year thanks to the time and commitment of our volunteers. Simply put, we wouldn't be here without you! Please meet some of the folks that that make up our phenomenal network of change makers.

I grew always curious about voting and what it meant on a deeper level. It's all thanks to my dad for uplifting mine and my sisters' voices from a young age and showing us the positive impact we have on other peoples' lives through service, education, and voting; it's become a deep passion of mine. I hope one day my niece and nephew with have the same positive impact in this world.

I found HeadCount through Dead & Company! I am a huge Grateful Dead fan and see Dead & Co every year at Citi Field (and I'm going to the last shows in San Francisco this year!). I was actually born on an election day, so my passion for voting and voting rights and voter registration was always meant to be!

Originally from Baltimore, I currently live in Middle Tennessee where I work at a local museum. I am the managing editor of our quarterly magazine all about the art, culture, and history of our community. My best party trick is that I can name every U.S. president in order - thanks Animaniacs! In addition to HeadCount, I volunteer with groups like The Ally Coalition, Reverb, and Calling All Crows. I even wrote my graduate thesis about the intersection of fan communities and activism.

I’m currently a medical librarian in Houston working half-time and primarily remote, which gives me time to enjoy my voter registration hobby. I’ve also been a public librarian and my work as a young adult / teen librarian and many high school visits a year really comes in handy when speaking to college classes re: voting. Hobbies: Festival going & Scuba Diving. My favorite band is Nine Inch Nails and when they’re touring, I try to see them a few times. My husband is my ultra reliable volunteer. We have 2 daughters who have both volunteered with HeadCount and a 2 1/2 year old grand who ‘helped’ register voters for a few minutes at Wednesday at the Square and she was saying: ‘’Are you registered to vote at your current address?’ and she did tell me ‘ I voted’ because she’s voted with mom & dad.

My name is Cristina and I love listening to music & being at concerts, so much so that I want to pursue an audio engineering degree in college this fall! My favorite musicians range from the Jonas Brothers, Kehlani, Harry Styles, and BTS. When I am not doing homework I enjoy being a Color Guard captain & working on my equipment skills. I love volunteering and HeadCount provides a unique experience that I am lucky to say I have been a part of!

I came to Austin ~8yrs ago from Phoenix, to get out of the heat (Ha!). I have had every kind of job from Renaissance Bell-Wench to physician, with a bunch of crazy ones in-between. I am currently retired, a Domestic Goddess, you might say. I volunteer at the Wildflower Center, and grow plants, and go hiking, and try my best to find more things to smile about than to complain about, which thankfully is something I am happy to say, I can do!

I’m a Chicago transplant who lives and breathes John Mayer, but consider myself a Baby Deadhead (thanks, John!). Love learning more about the jam band scene and getting music recommendations! Other bands that speak to my heart are Caamp, the Lumineers, & the Head and the Heart. When I’m not at a show, my fave hobbies are trying new restaurants with friends and traveling.

I love going to concerts and trying new restaurants around the city! My favorite artist is Phoebe Bridgers (my dream is to see her live lol). I always get excited when people recognize us at concerts and want to talk more about HeadCount and the work we do. I've been able to register 238 voters, and I hope to continue doing so 🙂

Julia is a senior at Tufts University majoring in English and Civic Studies. On campus, Julia writes for the music magazine and has her own weekly radio show. She loves all types of music, but is especially passionate about Charli XCX and country. Outside of music, Julia is into running, hot yoga, pickles, and all things California.

I've worked a lot of different jobs in many different fields over the years, including an ice cream shop, bakery and a couple of local breweries, but am currently employed in Project Management. I listen to nearly every genre of music there is, regularly, but probably favor indie and alternative artists the most. I'm an avid gardener and house plant aficionado. My home is like a tiny jungle full of greenery, with three cats and two dogs. I've been a registered voter since 2008 and try to do my best to turn out for local elections as well as national ones. I also volunteer on a couple of local street teams for concert venues, as I am very passionate about live music, which is ultimately what led me to Headcount in the first place.

Les Skolnik loves being a HeadCount TL! Les is currently a social studies and special education teacher at a high school in Tarrytown, NY. As a social studies teacher, Les facilitates classroom experiences that allow his students to see their own stories reflected in history. Les has been an educator, youth worker, and youth development specialist for over fifteen years, having also served in organizations and schools in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Pittsburgh, Long Island, and Buffalo, NY. Les holds a B.A. in History from SUNY Buffalo and a Master’s degree in Inclusive Secondary Social Studies Education from Hofstra University and is a New York State certified teacher in secondary Social Studies and Special Education. In his spare time, Les sees as much live music as possible (usually Phish), loves to travel, and can often be found exploring New York City with his camera while trying to improve his skills as a photographer.

My first time voting was in the 2016 presidential election when I was 18 years old. I triple majored at TAMUCC in psychology, theatre arts, and media studies. Does Thrifting, Coffee Drinking, Museum Hopping, and trying new food places count as a Hobby? Other than that you can find me reading or in my art studio. Anytime I have any free time I try to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new places or activities. I really enjoy running, hiking, and camping, but I'm always willing to try something new. Something I hope to get the chance to get back to this year is horse back riding and maybe try archery again. Of course I also hope to fill my year registering more voters and enjoying lots of shows!"

Aside from the coolest job in the world, being mom to the most beautiful, creative, intelligent teenage daughter on planet earth, I am super lucky to have turned my passions into a career for the past 15 years. I photograph all over the country everything from Airbnbs to editorial events to fascinating people to my favorite assignment, bands on tour.

Max has been a Team Leader in the Southern California region since 2020 and looks forward to continuing to work towards increasing participation in our democracy. He frequently volunteers with his father Carl who is also a HeadCount Team Leader. He enjoys spending time at beach, playing soccer, and searching for life’s next adventure.

I love going to concerts, I'm an entertainment graduate and found HeadCount through attending so many. Now I work at Live Nation but still love to help out with HeadCount any time I can. I’ve been to some of my favorite Harry Styles shows with HeadCount and could not have been there without this great opportunity. 🙂 I’ve also met some wonderful people and have the best team leader in New England - Adam!

In 2022, I became a Team Leader with HeadCount but I've been volunteering since 2017. Currently, I work as the Alumni Relations Manager at Virginia Tech and serve as a Sergeant in the Virginia Army National Guard. In both roles, I get the chance to build meaningful relationships with people and lead events. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, art, travelling, and gardening. My long term goal is to found a Music and Arts Festival that is accessible and affordable for the vast majority of people.

Racheal joined Headcount in 2012 as the Athens, Georgia team leader after learning about HeadCount through the Disco Biscuits. Since then she has worked on several special projects with HeadCount and now serves as Regional Coordinator for the Southeast. As a former social studies teacher and current paralegal, registering voters with HeadCount provides her a great opportunity outside of work to participate in a direct way in our democracy. She is hopeful that this work will impact the many issues around human rights that are so vital to our future. Above all, Racheal adores her amazing children, Griffin and Jessica, with the latter following in her footsteps and becoming part of the next generation of HeadCounters. Racheal loves all things Pearl Jam and Georgia football. She is forever grateful to HeadCount for providing an opportunity to meet one of her musical faves, Eddie Vedder. When she’s not a show, you can find her walking the beach, enjoying her paddle-board, biking the trails or working in the community garden on Jekyll Island, Georgia.

Old time Deadhead, saw the grateful Dead for the first time in 1978. Got on the Phish train pretty early, and then ignored them for 14 years. I've been going strong since 2014. Love tedeschi trucks, Los lobos, and just about anything that comes out of New Orleans. I started taping concerts in 1984, and still due to this day. My 25-year-old son is right by my side at most of Phish shows. I registered my son at the first show I volunteered at.
