It's been a while since I called Alabama home, but it's always on my mind. HeadCount was not active in the state for some time, but over the past two years through amazing volunteers in Huntsville and Birmingham, and through the Hangout Music Festival, we have made a lot of headway in educating and engaging voters across Alabama.
This year is exciting; for Alabama will close out this year’s election cycle on December 12, 2017 with the special election for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
The voter registration deadline for the election is Monday, November 27. You can register to vote by clicking here.
There has been a lot of confusion across Alabama about this election, and I’d briefly like to address basic information:
- Governor Kay Ivey called for this election in April 2017.
- After AG Sessions left his position in the Senate it was temporarily filled by Luther Strange. Strange was appointed by the Republican Alabama Governor and will hold the seat until after the Special Election on December 12.
- It doesn’t matter which party you are registered with or which party you voted for in the primary, you can vote for either candidate on December 12.
If you need to register to vote for this election:
- Register to vote online here if you have an in-state Alabama Driver’s License or state issued Non-Driver ID Card
- Fill out a form to print and mail if you are an Alabama resident with an out-of-state ID
- All voters should bring photo ID to the polls. If the address on your ID does not match the address on your registration, be sure to bring a current proof of residence showing your address.
