Don’t miss your next election!

Your voter registration application must be postmarked or hand delivered by Oct. 19th. You can vote in person with an absentee ballot at your county elections office, on Election Day, or vote by mail in South Dakota.

Presidential Primaries

Only registered voters affiliated with the Republican Party may vote in its primary. Registered voters that are unaffiliated may vote in Democratic primary. See South Dakota Republican Party or Democratic Party sites for more details.

Statewide Primaries

Some congressional seats, state offices and constitutional amendments may be included on the ballot.

Early Voting + Absentee Voting

Early Voting Dates: Sept. 18th-Nov. 2nd  at 3 p.m.

You can vote in person at your county clerk office from Sept. 18th-Nov. 2nd at 3:00 pm, using an absentee ballot.

To vote absentee by-mail, first you’ll need to apply for an absentee ballot no later than Nov. 2nd at 5:00 p.m. Then, when you complete your absentee ballot, it must be received by 8pm on Election Day. A copy of your photo ID or, if you do not have one, a signed affidavit is  required when you apply to vote by mail.

The absentee ballot application period opens Jan.1st. You must submit an application for an absentee ballot by-mail for each election.
