Voting Information for New Mexico

Don’t miss your next election!

New Mexico will hold presidential and state primary elections on June 2nd. Voters that wish to participate in New Mexico’s closed primary elections must affiliate with their party of choice 28 days before the primary election. If you would prefer to vote by-mail, you may submit a request for an absentee ballot without an excuse for each election.

Presidential Primaries

Only registered voters affiliated with a particular party may vote in its primary. See New Mexico Republican Party or Democratic Party sites for more details.

Statewide Primaries

Some congressional seats, state offices and constitutional amendments may be included on the ballot.

Early Voting + Absentee Voting

Early Voting Dates: May 16th to May 30th

You can vote in person at your county clerk's office from May 16th to May 30th before the election. No excuse required.

To vote absentee by mail, first you’ll need to apply for an absentee ballot (click here) no later than May 28th. Then, when you complete your absentee ballot, it must be received by 7 pm on election day.

The absentee ballot application period opens Jan. 1st. You must submit separate requests to receive ballots for each election during the calendar year, no excuse required.

  • Pre-registration

    • If you are 17 and will be 18 on or before the next election, you may register to vote.
    • You can vote at age 17 in primary elections if you're 18 by the general election
