Voting Information for Montana

Don’t miss your next election!

Montana will hold its primary election on June 2, 2020. Due to COVID-19, all registered voters will receive a ballot by mail on May 8th. The voter registration deadline has been extended to May 26th to accomodate voters that planned to register on Election Day. Voters that register after May 8th must request a ballot by mail from their county by June 1st. You may vote by-mail without an excuse, either by selecting to be permanent absentee voter or requesting a ballot for a specific election.

No party affiliation is required at registration to participate in a primary. See Montana Republican Party or Democratic Party sites for more details.

Statewide Primaries

Some congressional seats, state offices and constitutional amendments may be included on the ballot.

Early Voting + Absentee Voting

Early Voting Dates: May 4th to June 2nd (In-person absentee)

In-person absentee voting is available for 25 days before any election in Montana without an excuse. Visit your local elections office to pick up an absentee ballot by June 1st at noon.

Due to COVID-19, all registered voters will receive a ballot by mail on May 8th. Voters that register after May 8th must request a ballot from their county by June 1st.

To vote absentee by-mail, first you’ll need to apply for an absentee ballot (click here) no later than June 1st at noon. Then, when you complete your absentee ballot, it must be received by 8 pm on the date of the election.

Voters may request to be permanent absentee voters by-mail for all elections at any time, no excuse required.
