Senator Hatch’s Hanukkah Gift

I nearly always cringe when I see an old politician wearing headphones in a recording studio – or doing anything involving music and a camera. But Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) doesn't look that uncomfortable in a recording studio singing "Eight Days of Hannukah, a song he wrote for the holidays; but I still cringed a little.

Turns out Hatch is a longtime songwriter, with one platinum and one gold album to his credit. The 75-year-old Morman, who specializes in Christian hymns, wrote his latest song as a gift to the Jewish people.

“Anything I can do for the Jewish people, I will do,” Mr. Hatch said in an interview before heading to the Senate floor to debate an abortion amendment. “Mormons believe the Jewish people are the chosen people, just like the Old Testament says.”

Does the first night of Hanukkah get any better than that? What won't a politician do for a Jewish vote or two?
