When was the last time you saw a Sasquatch? If you were at The Gorge this past weekend, you probably saw quite a few!
HeadCount was lucky to be able to attend the Sasquatch festival at The Gorge in Washington State this past weekend. Arguably one of the most beautiful venues in the U.S., The Gorge proved to be a fantastic venue for another great festival and a perfect stage for representing HeadCount.
Situated amongst some other fantastic nonprofits such as Girls Rock Seattle and To Write Love On Her Arms, we began our mission to register voters and encourage fans to go to the polls in November for the mid-term elections. We had a great turnout - lots of first time registrations and many folks pledging to vote. A surprising number of Canadians attended the festival and though they could not write letters to Congress (though many said they had an issue or two to write to Congress about), they were very enthusiastic about our mission and wanted to encourage all Americans to get out and vote!
We raffled off a Sasquatch poster, signed by many of the performers, including HeadCount Partner The National (who gave HC a great shout out!), Patrick Watson, The Posies, Deadmau5, Broken Social Scene, Why?, Long Winters, Jets Overhead, Local Natives, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Tallest Man on Earth, The Heavy, Dr. Dog, Mayer Hawthorne, Passion Pit, and Drive By Truckers. Congrats to Carmen who won the poster!
A highlight was definitely a letter written by ten year-old Ike on pollution. Ike asked his representative Jim McDermott to make pollution a priority because "I want to be able to breathe the air".
As for the music, the HeadCount booth was located directly across from the Bigfoot Solar Stage so we were treated to great music throughout the weekend. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros brought great energy and played an amazing show. Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, and MGMT had the entire crowd on their feet and the Rumpus Room brought the dance party each night.
All in all a fantastic weekend. Can't wait until next year!
