Top dance and electronic acts are showing their support for the LGBT community the best way they know how... through music. Astralwerks, the dance music label home to the likes of Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, and many other fantastic artists, has issued the second annual sample album, "Hey Boy, Hey Girl!", in honor of upcoming PrideFests nationwide. These events honor LGBT communities in various locations across the country and around the world.
The album was released in honor of Astralwerks' LGBT colleagues, friends, and fans that "have been a big part of their success" and will be available at many PrideFests across the country at no cost. It is also available online as a free download.
PrideFest is an event that typically takes place in June, which is the unofficially recognized LGBT Pride month. Many historians believe that the events of the Stonewall Riots of June, 1969, were the start of the LGBT movement as a whole and the inspiration behind the annual summer celebrations. The riots occurred after a popular underground Greenwich Village Gay bar underwent a police raid (a standard event for that time) and the LGBT community made the decision to fight back with violence for the first time. These riots signified a new feeling of power in the LGBT community. The next year marked the first Gay Pride March, headed by the Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee. Since then, PrideFest has become a movement that unites and commemorates the accomplishments of LGBT communities around the world.
