Nokia Theater is no longer

Hey, you guys want to see who is playing at Best Buy tonight? Umm... what?

No, this isn't another adventure in high profile, in-store performances perfected by Apple stores across the country. Turns out, the Nokia Theater in Times Square, known by name to New Yorkers and tourists alike since it opened in 2005, is changing its name to the Best Buy Theater. Granted, it isn't closing, but those who frequent the theater can't help but to feel a sense of mourning.

"Naming-rights deals often rankle fans," explains the New York Times. So much so, "that they might never fully adopt a new name." However, the Best Buy spokesperson is optimistic, claiming that this is one partnership that makes more sense than most. Also, the inaugural performance of the venue, christening it, if you will, will be "an intimate performance" by Linkin Park as they promote their new album, A Thousand Suns. If this helps or hurts the cause, the jury is still out...

The good news for you LA kids: Both Nokia Theater and Club Nokia will remain as such, at least for the time being.
