Mickey Hart’s Nostalgic Single Benefits the Jersey Shore

As the dust settles and the news coverage of Superstorm Sandy Storm starts to wane,  Mickey Hart, member of the legendary Grateful Dead and friend of HeadCount, decided this would be the perfect time to release a Mickey Hart Band song entitled “Jersey Shore” which will benefit the storms' victims. You can download the song and help rebuild the shore at MickeyHart.net/Jersey.

According to Rolling Stone, Hart's inspiration for the song came from his childhood living in the neighborhoods that were affected by the horrendous storm. The song combines the worlds of New York and Jersey with worldly rhythms and a doo-wop vibe. The lyrics in the song really embody the beauty of Jersey shore and the devastation that Sandy caused. With lines like “where warm winds blow across your face" and “where rainbows fly” the song really does exactly what Hart said it would do: “use strength to rebuild the hope.” All  proceeds from this song will go directly to Clean Ocean Action, an organization dedicated to helping those affected by the storm and protecting marine quality in the New Jersey/New York area.

Just after the storm hit, HeadCount repurposed funds raised at our pre-election Participation Tour and raised over $12,000 for the victims of Sandy. The show included New Orleans veterans Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, as well as long as a list of special guest including Questlove, Bela Fleck, North Mississippi All Stars Duo, Eric Krasno and members of Lettuce Keller Williams and John Kadleick of Furthur.

Mickey's release of “Jersey Shore" is a good reminder that areas affected by Hurricane Sandy are still deeply in need.
