Michael Toler - HeadCount

Michael Toler (@tolerm) began volunteering with HeadCount early in 2011 and became Regional Coordinator of New England in the summer of 2012.  Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Michael has been a bit of a nomad since starting college.  In addition to extensive travels for work, scholarship and leisure, he has lived for extended periods in New York City, where received his MA at NYU; three cities in Morocco, where he was a Peace Corps volunteer and then stayed to continue teaching in the university system there; Binghamton NY where he received a PhD in comparative literature at Binghamton University; Middlebury, VT and Wellesley, MA where he worked as a consultant in the use of technology in liberal arts education at the university level; and Hillsboro, WV where he serves as an Americorps volunteer at the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace, developing educational programs for local schools, updating the museums online presences and internal communication tools, and even leading tours. Michael is fascinated by the political role or art, especially popular music, and in the use of social media to promote and facilitate civic engagement, hence his involvement with HeadCount is a natural fit.
