Do you love sports, music and democracy? Here’s a job that combines all three. Work part-time registering voters at Capitals, Wizards and Mystics games, plus select concerts. You’ll represent HeadCount.org – one of the nation’s largest civic engagement nonprofit organizations – at events hosted by Monumental Sports & Entertainment. This puts you on the front lines of social impact as you help sports and music fans register to vote, check their registration status or learn about upcoming elections.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as HeadCount’s lead representative at Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, and Washington Mystics games throughout the 2022-23 seasons,, plus selected concerts through Election Day 2022
  • Manage full activation including setup, breakdown, and assisting patrons with voter registration and related actions (using tablets, smart phones and paper)
  • Schedule, confirm and communicate with volunteers in advance of each event
  • Train and manage any volunteers or additional representatives while on-site
  • Maintain professional demeanor through all activations, coordinating and liaison with venue staff where applicable
  • Manage all HeadCount materials, including signage, tablet computers, voter registration forms and sending items back to main NYC office in a timely manner through standard protocols
  • Follow up where necessary for replacement materials or restock of items
  • File reports following each event
  • Maintain a calendar of upcoming events, with no cancellations less than two weeks in advance for anything other than illness or emergency
  • Timely communication with manager, volunteers and arena/team staff

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience with voter registration, field organizing or volunteer management
  • College major or degree in related field
  • Passion for civic engagement
  • Commitment to remain nonpartisan at all times
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a neat and orderly setup
  • General availability throughout the week to communicate with volunteers and HeadCount staff
  • Ability to travel to and from the Capital One and Sports & Entertainment arenas in Washington D.C.
  • Demonstrating reliability, strong judgment and professional maturity

HOURS:

  • An average of 3-4 events each week, mostly in evenings but some weekend afternoons
  • Event and staffing times will vary, but generally arriving at 4:45 for 7PM start times, breaking down at the end of the second intermission or half time, or when the concert headliner begins. Approximately four (4) hours total on-site
  • Approximately two (2) hours off-site per event, including communication with volunteers, filing reports, and shipping completed voter registration forms

COMPENSATION:

  • $175 per event
  • Additional $50 per event when confirming and managing three or more volunteers
