Team Leader of the Week: Chris Reed

Name: Chris Reed
Location: Washington, DC
Employer: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Favorite HeadCount Band: Okkervil River
Best HeadCount Experience: Every time I am at a show, it is an awesome experience! It may sound lame, but talking to people about something so important as civic participation in a live music setting is just great. I would have to say my favorite two shows while working for HeadCount have been George Clinton (b/c it was just crazy!) and Hole (b/c it was such a train wreck!). Regardless of what the show is, though, talking to people is the funnest part and every show brings a new audience with new ideas!
What's Your Issue? My issue is the environment and in particular, the health of the oceans. Prior to moving to DC, I was the outreach coordinator for a sustainable seafood program out in Monterey, California. It is just amazing how many people do not realize that the choices you make today can affect generations to come.
Why do you like volunteering for HeadCount? It is just really fun meeting people and artists with similar views. I think the coolest thing is that regardless of one's personal beliefs and political party affiliation, all parties can agree that without casting your vote or making your voice heard, you don't have a leg to stand on! So many people come to the table and tell me their vote doesn't count and I try to tell them that if everyone who thought that would actually get out and cast that vote anyway, the combined effect can be huge! I also believe that if you don't vote, you really have no right to complain about anything.
Hobbies: When I'm not working a show, I'm usually at a show. Joining HC has only fueled my passion for concert-going. If I'm not at a concert you can find me hanging with my dogs.
