We live in a complex world. But sometimes a single photo and a few well-chosen words bring us all closer to our common humanity.
On Saturday, HeadCount's co-chair Marc Brownstein posted the following photo and words on his Facebook page.
I have a Palestinian friend. Her name is Samia. We've been friends for a decade and we always half joke that we are paving the road for peace in the Middle East. Last night, on the eve of war between those who share our heritage, we exchanged these flowers as a symbol of our friendship and the hope for such between more individual Jews and Palestinians.
Within a day, there were nearly 100 comments, 2,000 "likes," and 75 shares. The photo was seen by more than 45,000 people.
Flowers and a photo won't stop a war on the other side of the world. But it's tiny acts of love and solidarity, echoed across social media, that plant the seeds of peace.
